Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941)

Custody of the Senses 3i

2011, the year of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Bengali poet and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, I thought I would share one of my favourite passages with you.

From  Gitanjali (Song Offerings) 1910

He whom I enclose with my name is weeping in this dungeon.
I am ever busy building this wall all around; and as this wall goes up into the sky day by day I lose sight of my true being in its dark shadow.

I take pride in this great wall, and I plaster it with dust and sand lest a hole should be left in this name; and for all the care I take I lose sight of my true being.

There is a display of some of Tagore's painting at the V&A, London.  To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the V&A will hold a display of about 50 of his paintings from the period 1928 to 1939, never before displayed outside India.
Rabindrath Tagore: Poet and Painter  on show until 4th March 2012.

Drawing: Pen and Ink

Composition 1.11 (31 x 36cm)

This drawing, in pen, brush and ink was done on a watercolour paper.

I have wanted to get back to doing more drawing for some time and expand my mediums.  Pen and ink is not a medium that I have used much.

I think it is a matter of experimenting with different papers, in this case I think that the paper (Bockingford Not 300gsm) has too much texture which inhibited the nib running smoothly.

For other drawings that I have been doing in pen and ink  you can look at my website.

Welcome to my art blog.

I decided to start this blog in order to both share my work and also my passion for art.  I hope to be able to communicate my love of art and perhaps engage in discussions with those who are interested.

Please feel free to comment or ask any questions, which I will do my best to answer.
